Small Business CRM Software Migration - Move Installation to a New PC
Move Small Business CRM Software Installation to a New PC
If you need to move Amphis Customer to a new PC, follow the instructions below.
Please Note: These notes apply to Amphis Customer v3.0. If you are using an earlier version, please email customer support
Do not uninstall Amphis Customer from your old PC until you are sure you have successfuly loaded all your data and documents onto your new PC and everything is up and running ok
Backup your Data and Documents from your old PC
Ensure you have a backup of your customer database (customer.mdb), Documents folder, Templates folder, Reports folder and Exports folder before proceeding. Close Amphis Customer before making the backup.
If you haven't moved the database or folders to a different location, you can go to Tools->Folders->View Data Folder and back up the entire folder and subfolders. If you have moved the database (customer.mdb) or the folders, perhaps to share them between multiple users, you must ensure you have backed up the files from their correct location. If you go to Tools->Configuration on your old PC (if you can) that will show you where the files and folders are located.
With the default settings, using Windows XP, your database (customer.mdb) will be stored in
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Amphis Customer v3.0
On Windows Vista and Windows 7 this will be
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Amphis Customer v3.0
In the same folder you'll find the subfolders Documents, Templates, Exports and Reports.
To be sure you have backed up the correct files, take a look at the size and the Modified Date on the customer.mdb file and check that there are files in the Documents folder and Templates folder. In the Documents folder there will be a subfolder for each customer. Check that there are recently created/edited files in there if you create documents eg Quotes. The customer.mdb file starts off at 1812Kb or around 1.77Mb so if you have created customers/contacts, the customer.mdb file should be larger than that. If you have created/edited customer/contact details recently, the Modified Date should be set to the last date/time you created or edited any records.
Make a note of existing settings
Go to Options->Setup on your old PC (if you can) and make a note of the Sales Tax information (page 2) and the Customer Id format (page 3) so you can set up the same on the new PC. Just click Next, Next, Next, OK.
If you need to change the name of the new PC, change it before installing Amphis Customer
Please note that the Licensing is sensitive to PC name changes. If you need to change the PC name, change it before installing the 30 day trial. If you change the PC name after installing the trial, the license string will not work.
Download and Install Amphis Customer 30 day trial onto new PC
Download and Install the 30 day trial from our home page onto the new PC and run Amphis Customer. You will need to enter your business name again and enter the Sales Tax details. On setup page 3 be careful to select the same customer Id format that you used on the old PC. On setup page 4 just click OK. The customer Id and Quote Ids etc will be loaded from the backup database.
Get a new License String
On the Customer Support menu or on the Evaluation screen (when you restart Amphis Customer) click Get License String to send us the new Serial Number for your new PC and we will return a new License String. There is no charge for the new License String but please note that this software license replaces your existing license and you cannot legally continue to use the old license. You can click the Register License button or menu and enter the license string to fully license the software. The only reason that the License String would not be valid is if you changed the name of the PC after installing the software in which case you will need to change the PC name back in order for the license string to work.
Restore Data and Documents from your Backup
If you are using the default locations for data and documents, go to Tools->Folders->View Data Folder to view the folder and then close Amphis Customer (or else you won't be able to load your data and files from your backup). Replace the database (customer.mdb) with the one from your backup. It should prompt you to ask if you want to replace the existing file. Click Yes. Then copy the documents, templates, exports and reports files from your backup to the Documents, Templates, Exports and Reports folders. If you are prompted to ask if you want to override the existing files, click Yes.
Configure Amphis Customer
If you want your database and folders to be stored elsewhere on your PC, copy them to the location that you need them and then go to Tools->Configuration and click Change... to point to the correct Database location and folders locations on your PC.
If your database and folders are stored in a shared folder on a different PC, you can just go to Tools->Configuration and click Change... to point to the correct Database location and folders locations on your shared folder.
If you have any problems setting up Amphis Customer on your new PC, please email customer support
