A client of ours was running a trial of our Small Business CRM Software and he was getting the error
Retrieving the COM ClassFactory for Component With CLSID (000209FF-0000-C000-000000000046) failed due to the following error 80040154
He was using Microsoft Works rather than Microsoft Office.
Amphis Customer Small Business CRM uses Word 2003 or a later version to generate Invoices, Quotes, Job Sheets, Customer Letters etc. The client was using Microsoft Works which includes Word 2002.
We suggested using Word 2003 or 2007 instead of Microsoft Works as our software requires Word 2003 or later and does not support Word 2002.
The client installed Word 2003 and he no longer got the ClassFactory error but he still couldn't see any Word documents being created. He went to the folder where the documents were (successfully) being created and he tried to right-click a document and open it. He was prompted to specify what program he wanted to use to open the document and so he specified Word and he ticked the Always Open Files Of This Type checkbox. And that solved the problem.
So if you upgrade from Microsoft Works (Word 2002) to Word 2003 or 2007 you may need to specify that .doc documents are to be opened in Word.
