File Permissions Problem When Copying Files to the Programs Folder

You may see file permissions problems when copying files to the programs folder

You may see file permissions errors when attempting to copy files to the Programs folder. This is because, when using Windows Vista or Windows 7, the Programs folder is a restricted read-only folder in order to help protect the integrity of your PC and protect it from viruses.

However, if you wish to upgrade program files, you will need to be able to overwrite files in the Programs folder.

To overwrite a file in the Programs folder, right-click on it and select Properties

File Properties

Click the Security Tab. Click Edit. If you see a User Account Control pop-up click Continue.

Edit File Permissions

Select Users. In the Allow column, tick Full control. Click OK. Click OK.

Now you should be able to replace the existing file(s) with the new version.
