We provide Free CRM Software Upgrades to users of our Amphis Customer CRM Software. These are provided as a .zip file that you can download from our Downloads page.

The majority of our clients have no problem upgrading to the latest version of our CRM Software if they follow the information on the Upgrade Instructions web page and they also read the version specific instructions in the readme.txt file included in the .zip file.

So, as a first step, please check you have followed the Upgrade Instructions web page and followed the instructions in the readme.txt file which are specific to each release.

CRM Upgrade Problems

A handful of clients have a problem upgrading which normally falls into one of these areas :-

  • They download the wrong file. To upgrade the software you need to download a .zip file called something like amphis3.0.55.zip from our Downloads page.

    If you see a File Download Pop Up that shows a file named amphiscustomer.msi then you have clicked on the wrong download link. You need to be downloading a Zip file not a MSI file in order to upgrade the software.

  • They download and run the wrong file. If you see a form asking you to select Repair or Remove Amphis Customer, you are running the .msi file which you're not meant to be doing. Similarly if it says there is another version already installed, then you are running the .msi file which you are not meant to be doing.

  • They don't open the .Zip file and click Extract All Files to extract all the files to a folder on their desktop. It won't work if you try to run the .exe file from within the .zip file.

  • They copy the files to the wrong folder. It is essential that the EXE and DLL files are copied to your Programs folder which is either :-

          c:\program files\amphis software\amphis customer v3.0

    or on a 64-bit PC it will be

          c:\program files (x86)\amphis software\amphis customer v3.0

    You should be asked to confirm that you want to overwrite these files. If you are not asked to confirm that you want to replace the existing files, you must be copying the files to the wrong folder.

  • They don't copy the required files. Please read the readme.txt file in the .zip file. You will need to copy at least 2 files :-

         amphis customer.exe
         amphis.customer.data.types.customer.dll

    Please read the readme.txt file for full details of which files to copy.

  • Amphis Customer needs to be shut down to perform the Upgrade or else you will not be able to overwrite the old files.

  • If you already had a config.mdb file you are not meant to replace it with the one from the .zip file. If you replaced an existing config.mdb file you may see a "Cannot connect to Customer Database. Connection String is blank" error. If possible, restore the original config.mdb file from a backup. If you cannot do that, you can download a default config.mdb file in a .zip file here. You need to open the .zip file, click Extract All Files and extract config.mdb and readme.txt to a folder. You need to replace your config.mdb file with the one from the .zip. The readme.txt file tells you where to copy it. You should be asked to confirm that you wish to replace the existing file. You will also need to run Amphis Customer and go to Tools->Configuration and make any changes required to point to the correct location for your database, documents and templates.

Programs Folder

If you have followed all the instructions and copied all the files to the correct folders, and you still have problems, take a look in your Programs folder which is either :-

      c:\program files\amphis software\amphis customer v3.0

or on a 64-bit PC it will be

      c:\program files (x86)\amphis software\amphis customer v3.0

which should look like this :-

If you cannot see the file extensions eg .dll, go to Control Panel, Folder Options (on Windows 7 this will be Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Folder Options) click the View tab, untick Hide extensions for known file types and click OK.

Check the version of the executable file as follows.

Right-click on the Amphis Customer.exe file and select Properties, you should see the Product version like this. For example, if you are upgrading to version 3.0.49, the Product version should show as 3.0.49.0 If you see a different version, you have not copied the files to the correct folder.

If you have copied all the files to the correct folder(s) and you have the correct version of Amphis Customer.exe and you still have problems, please email a screenshot of the problem you are seeing to support@amphis-software.com

If you are able to run Amphis Customer, please click the Customer Support menu and click Email Support Files to Customer Support to email us your log files so we can investigate.

If you cannot run Amphis Customer at all, please go to the folder

   C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Amphis Customer v3.0

On Windows XP this will be

   C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Amphis Customer v3.0

and email us all log files which are .txt files called <day>_log.txt eg thursday_log.txt

These folders are hidden folders so you may need to go to Folder Options (as shown above) and untick Hide protected operating system files and select Show hidden files, folders and drives

Also, please email us the contents of your Programs folder eg c:\program files\amphis software\amphis customer v3.0 as a .zip file so we can check the versions of the files you are running.
