Stand-alone CRM Software or used on an office network

Amphis Customer is designed so it can be used either stand-alone on a PC or laptop (where the data and documents are all stored on that single PC or laptop), or it can be used on an office network where multiple PCs access and update the database and documents (where the data and documents are stored in a shared folder on a PC on that office network, that all the PCs can access).

Accessing Data and Documents from home

Some clients don't have an office network but still want to be able to work from home as well as work from the office. Here are some options.

  1. Use a laptop. Run the software on a laptop with the data and documents stored on the laptop, and take the laptop with you so you can work in the office or at home.

  2. Transfer the data files using a memory stick or online storage. Use a memory stick or online storage as a way of transferring files from your office PC to your home PC and vice versa. When you finish working in the office, copy the contents of Tools->Folders->View Data Folder to a memory stick or even to online storage. Then when you get home, copy the files from your memory stick or online storage to the Data folder on your home PC (Tools->Folders->View Data Folder) and you can carry on working from home. When you finish working at home you need to remember to copy the files back to memory stick or online storage, and you need to remember to copy those files back to your office PC when you get back to the office.

  3. Use a hard disk or memory stick as the main storage location. Another option is to store all the data and documents on a removable hard disk or even on a memory stick as the main storage location instead of storing the data and documents on the hard disks of your office or home PCs. You just need to copy everything from Tools->Folders->View Data Folder onto the disk or memory disk. On your office PC and your home PC, go to Tools->Configuration, click the Change button for the Database, Documents and Templates to change the location where the software looks for the files to be your removable disk or memory stick instead of your local disk. Then when you get to the office or get back home, just plug in your removable hard disk or memory stick and you can carry on working with the latest data and documents.

Notes

Always close Amphis Customer before copying data or document files to ensure that connections to the files have been closed.

Always remember to back up your data and documents at least once a day to a storage medium that is located away from your office. Otherwise if your PC is stolen or a virus wipes your disk, you may lose all your important data and documents.

Questions

Can I just store the data and documents in online storage and access them from my home and office PCs ?

Unfortunately not, the Windows Database needs to be stored on a Windows PC or Server.
