Install CRM Software and Add Multiple Users

Multiple CRM Users on Same PC

Install CRM Software

When you install Amphis Customer CRM Software, by default it is installed just for the current user.

Install software just for me

To ensure that Amphis Customer works on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, Data and Documents are stored by default in user folders. (This can also be customized so that data and documents are stored elsewhere eg on a different server so that multiple PCs can share the customer details).

Amphis Customer is licensed on a per user basis.

Add Additional CRM User to the Same PC

So, what happens if I already have user Fred on PC1 but I also want to use Amphis Customer as user Mary on PC1 ?

If you add Windows user Mary to PC1 and then login as Mary, you'll notice that the Amphis Customer icon isn't there on the desktop or on the Start Menu. Although if you go to c:\program files\amphis software\amphis customer v3.0 you'll find the Amphis Customer.exe file. (On a 64-bit PC, the Amphis Customer.exe file will be in c:\program files (x86)\amphis software\amphis customer v3.0)

You can right-click on the Amphis Customer.exe file and drag it on to your desktop and select Create Shortcut Here to create a Shortcut icon.

Cannot Connect to Customer Database. Config DB Missing

But, if you run the Amphis Customer.exe file when logged in as Mary, you will get an error - "Cannot connect to Customer Database. Config DB missing".

Amphis Customer is looking for the config.mdb file which it expects to find in the User folder for Mary. This tells it where the database file customer.mdb can be found.

Copy Config.mdb File to Each User

To fix this, just copy the config.mdb file from the first user you installed into the User folder for Mary.

The Config Database config.mdb is stored in the folder...

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Amphis Customer v3.0

(On Windows XP it will be C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Amphis Customer v3.0)

The config.mdb file is the same for all users so just copy the file to the User folder for each user.

Download Default Files

If you prefer, you can instead download a blank config.mdb file as a zip file from

www.amphis-software.com/config.zip

and then you can go into Tools->Configuration to point Amphis Customer to the correct location for the database, documents and templates.

Sharing Customer Data and Documents

So, how can I configure Amphis Customer so that 2 different users on the same PC can share customer data and documents ?

First, you'll have to choose a folder somewhere that both users can access. This is similar to if you were sharing customer data between multiple PCs. Then you would store the shared database, documents and templates in a shared folder on a server somewhere. You can do the same for multiple users using the software on the same PC or you can choose a public folder on the PC itself.

(If you already have a shared folder for this and you've already moved the database, documents and templates to a shared folder then just set up Amphis Customer for the new user (in Tools->Configuration) to point to the existing shared folder). You can either do this manually or you can just copy the config.mdb from the other user or from a different PC where this has already been set up.

See Share Customer Data and Documents

Then, you need to change the configuration by going to Tools->Configuration and changing the location that Amphis Customer uses for the database, documents, templates, reports and exports. Just click the Change button for each of these, select the Folder to use and click OK. Click the Test Permissions button to check the folder permissions are set correctly. Click the Save Changes button for each change. Then click Close and restart Amphis Customer.

You can create a shortcut for Amphis Customer by right-clicking on the Amphis Customer.exe file and dragging it to the desktop and clicking Create Shortcut.

Note that Amphis Customer is licensed per user so although Fred may have had a license, when the software runs as Mary, it may run as a 60 day trial which will require another license.
